About KTA
BACKGROUND
The Kenya Transporters Association Limited (KTA) is a professional body representing commercial road transport operators in Kenya. Established in 1969 as the Kenya Africa Road Transport Association (KARTA), it was later renamed the Kenya Transport Association (KTA). In 2011, the association transitioned to a limited company by guarantee, adopting the name Kenya Transporters Association Limited (KTAL) to reflect the industry’s evolving nature.
Initially formed to protect the interests of road transporters facing challenges such as high taxation and inadequate infrastructure, KTA has grown significantly. Today, it stands as one of the most influential bodies in the transport sector in Kenya and the East African Community (EAC) region, boasting an active membership of over 250 transport companies.
